DICC

The Discovery Islands Chamber of Commerce (DICC) would like to better understand our community’s perceptions of Tourism. The postcard you may have received in your post office box this week offers a link to a survey. The survey is one of many tools used by Destination British Columbia (Destination BC), the province’s tourism marketing organization, to gather insights and data about tourism trends, visitor experiences, and community perspectives on tourism development. The DICC, in collaboration with Destination BC, is utilizing this survey to gather residents’ perceptions of Tourism. Our postal code and the unique link (sentis.ca/quadra) that Destination BC has created for Quadra Island will allow our data to be isolated so an accurate representation of our community responses can be obtained. From this data Destination BC will provide the DICC with a report based on Quadra Island residents’ responses.

Purpose of the Survey

1. Gathering Community Insights: The survey aims to understand how residents feel about tourism in their area, including its impact on the residents, the community infrastructure, the temperate rainforest environment, and the economy.

2. Identifying Opportunities and Challenges: It helps identify opportunities for enhancing tourism experiences and any challenges that need to be addressed.

3. Strategic Planning: The data collected can inform Destination BC’s strategies and plans to promote sustainable tourism development in different regions

Why the Quadra Island Community Would Be Asked to Complete the survey? Involving local communities in tourism planning ensures that development aligns with residents’ values and needs.

4. Local Economic Development: The survey can provide valuable insights for the Discovery Islands Chamber of Commerce and local groups and businesses in their efforts to enhance local economic capacity and promote sustainable tourism.

5. Sustainable Tourism: As Quadra Island is a part of the Discovery Islands, a region known for its natural beauty, diverse wildlife and outdoor activities, the feedback from residents can help ensure that tourism growth is managed responsibly and sustainably. The Discovery Islands Chamber of Commerce is asking the community to complete the survey so we can gather comprehensive feedback to contribute to a well-rounded understanding of how tourism can best support the local economy, the environment and ensure community well being.

We appreciate you taking the time to complete the ten-minute survey and look forward to sharing the results with you in the Spring.

You can access the survey at sentis.ca/quadra.

With Gratitude,

Discovery Islands Chamber of Commerce Council
