Our Projects
The Quadra Island Economic Diversification Planning Project, led by the Discovery Islands Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the We Wai Kai Nation and Quadra Island Foundation, is a two-year initiative to strengthen local economic resilience and sustainability. At its core is the hiring of a part-time Economic Development Coordinator to guide the development of an Economic Diversification Plan and a Sustainable Tourism Plan that reduce reliance on seasonal industries, expand year-round opportunities, and promote eco-friendly and Indigenous-led cultural tourism. The project also includes delivery of the Four Seasons of Reconciliation training, fostering understanding and collaboration between Indigenous and non-Indigenous community members while embedding reconciliation principles into local economic strategies. In addition, targeted capacity-building initiatives—such as coaching, mentorship, professional development, and workforce recruitment and retention programs—will strengthen small businesses, not-for-profits, and entrepreneurs. By combining strategic planning, inclusive training, and community-driven capacity building, the project will generate employment, attract investment, and create a diverse, sustainable, and culturally respectful economy for Quadra Island and the Discovery Islands.
