Discovery Islands Chamber of Commerce Launches “Four Seasons of Reconciliation” Training Initiative

A community-wide effort to promote reconciliation, economic inclusion, and cultural understanding

Quadra Island, BC – Jun 3, 2025 – The Discovery Islands Chamber of Commerce (DICC), in collaboration with the We Wai Kai Nation, Quadra Island Foundation, and local partners, is proud to announce the official launch of the Four Seasons of Reconciliation training program. This initiative marks a major step toward building a more inclusive and resilient local economy through education, dialogue, and meaningful relationship-building.

The program will roll out over two years, beginning with Chamber Council members and project team, then expanding to the broader business community and public. Participants will engage in a series of workshops, videos, and discussion circles designed to deepen understanding of Indigenous histories, cultures, and contemporary issues. The program is being delivered in partnership with Reconciliation Education and the First Nations University of Canada.

“By launching this program, we are committing to a future where reconciliation is embedded in how we do business and build community,” said Carol Ann Terreberry, President of the Discovery Islands Chamber of Commerce. “We believe economic development must go hand-in-hand with respect, equity, and cultural awareness.”

The launch aligns with broader goals laid out in the Chamber’s Economic Diversification and Sustainable Tourism Strategy, funded through the Province of British Columbia’s REDIP program. The training supports Call to Action #92 of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, urging businesses to provide intercultural competency training and build respectful relationships with Indigenous communities.

Jason Wilson, Director of Economic Development for the We Wai Kai Nation, emphasized the importance of this initiative: “This training is a chance to strengthen our shared understanding and foster economic partnerships built on trust, inclusion, and respect. It’s encouraging to see the Chamber taking a leadership role in reconciliation.”

Key Dates and Details:

• October 4, 2025 – Community-wide launch and info session at Cape Mudge Recreation Hall
• October 2025: Online learning for Chamber members and public begins
• Cost: $49 for members / $79 for non-members (Regular price: $199)This program is part of a long-term commitment to reconciliation, community engagement, and inclusive economic growth in the Discovery Islands.
